Company overview

IGSA is an AI company born out of the Matsuo-Iwasawa Lab at the University of Tokyo. Like tatami woven from igusa rushes, we pursue sustainable happiness through AI systems that support society warmly, softly, and from beneath.

This position joins IGSA X, our business that rebuilds both business operations and core systems with AI as the premise, working alongside clients end to end from design through operation. We are neither a business-transformation consultancy nor a system development vendor: we design and implement operations and systems together in the same project. Our main clients are companies where on-the-ground operations are at the heart of the business. Our track record includes bringing core business systems to production in a fraction of the timeline expected of conventional system integrators, and extends from private companies to university research institutions and government.

IGSA itself runs its own management and development AI-natively, practicing daily the same methods and verification design we deliver to clients. Learn more on the IGSA X website.

About this role | Applied AI Engineer

We are looking for an engineer to implement AI on IGSA X client projects. Working from agreed specifications and our delivery harnesses, you will handle implementation through delivery.

IGSA X delivery runs on three roles: a lead engineer who owns the project as a whole, a design engineer who turns client needs into specifications and experience, and this position, which turns those into working software quickly. What this position owns is the speed and quality of implementation.

Your mission is to build AI into client operations and ship working software quickly. You will work with our standardized harnesses, and propose improvements where they fall short.

We expect the engagement to start as a contract. Depending on results, there is the possibility of conversion to full-time, or appointment at the executive or division-head level.

03

Responsibilities

  • Implementing AI/LLM features and business workflow automation on client projects
  • Working with our standardized harnesses and automated verification, and proposing improvements
  • Verifying behavior in client environments and supporting adoption
04

Requirements

  • Experience developing with LLM agents such as Claude Code built into your own workflow (we will ask you to walk us through real examples in the interview)
  • Practical web application development experience (TypeScript / React, etc.)
05

Who we look for

  • Someone who already works in a way that multiplies their development productivity with AI
  • Someone who ships working software quickly and assures quality through testing and verification
  • Someone who can adapt implementations flexibly to each client's situation
06

Hiring process

  • Interview with the business lead (we will ask how you use AI in your daily development)
  • Interview with the CEO
  • Paid trial (a task close to a real project)
  • Alignment on terms and contract
